This year, as I perused the walls of Halloween costumes with my 2 teenage sons (a pilgrimage we make together every year) I ventured off on my own, leaving my boys among the bloody appendages and creepy clown masks.
For me growing up, Halloween was never about scary masks, but more about magic and more about dreams of what could be. Actually, most of my childhood was about the magic. So as I looked around for a costume for a friend’s party that day it came as no surprise that I should be drawn to a display filled with sparkly fairy wands. And though they were quite spectacular with their crystals, glitter, and tinsel, none compared to my magic wands from my past.
At a very young age my Baba (my Polish grandmother) would transform me from an average 4 year old little girl into a beautiful fairy princess ... all with pure magic and common items found in her home. My fairy wand was a wooden dowel attached to a cardboard star covered in foil and my elegant gown and cape were made from her sheer ruffled curtains attached with safety pins and ribbons. As far as I was concerned, I truly was a fairy princess.
These are some of my favorite memories. You see, my grandmother had a very difficult life, but I had no idea, because it was always filled with magical moments. Things were not easy for her, but she knew how to make magical moments and this was the true lesson she passed along to me with that tin foil star.
No matter where you are or are not or what you have or don’t have, there is always a way to bring magic into the moment! I’m talking big magic! Magic that brings joy, love, peace and hope! Magic that all is well now! This has been my saving grace when life is serious, challenging, difficult or dull. So I chose a simple wand for my costume that night along with a tiara for some added bling, and I know that it is my turn to help others find the magic in their lives. To help others find the peace, love and joy in the moment! I hope you too will take this challenge!
What are your magical memories?
How will you add magic into your life?
Where is there already magic?
How can you bring magic to others?
I encourage you to post your magic in the comments here or on my Facebook page.
